I'll nominate The Man From Earth. http://www.manfromearth.com/
I have to say this is one of the best films I have seen in many many years.
I am still feeling the impact it made on me after a couple of weeks.
The whole film takes place in one room of a cabin out in a forest - no explosions, no CGI, just fine acting and good writing to entertain us - and thats what it should be like all the time!
The story is about a professor who has suddenly quit his job, and is moving away. Several of his friends turn up to say good bye and pester him about why he is leaving so suddenly, and without any (to them) real reason to do so.
He finally breaks and tells them his story, claiming that he is an immortal, and is 14000 years old...
Whilst non of the cast are mega stars - you will recognise most of them - they are all fine actors, it is a superb cast.
10 out of 10 for me, this film.

I can only agree with Elune, this really is an excellent film, or at least it is if you want to watch a film that is something other than special effects!
An excellent story; it all hangs together remarkable well... well, sort of... You'll have to watch it and see :)
A word of warning though; this film may not be for the overly religious among us! Watch it anyway!
The Man From Earth gets my recommendation too - it may not be the latest Hollywood blockbuster, but it's certainly worth watching.

Grace is Gone.
John Cusak stars (in possibly his best performance imho) as a man whose wife is serving in the U.S. military, and is killed in action.
Devastated, he finds he can't bring himself to tell their children that their mother is dead.
Lost in his grief, he decides to take them on a trip, hoping to find a way to break the news to them.
A sad , thoughtful film, very well done I thought, and well acted, especially Shélan O'Keefe who plays the older daughter.
The only negative is I found it a little rushed at the end , skimming over the aftermath of Cusak telling the kids, and how they cope afterwards.
Elune weepy rating 9/10

Is anyone watching this?

I am quite enjoying it (I have not read the book yet though).

The Pillars of the Earth
In a time of civil war, famine and religious strife, there rises a magnificent Cathedral in Kingsbridge. Against this backdrop, lives entwine: Tom, the master builder, Aliena, the noblewoman, Philip, the prior of Kingsbridge, Jack, the artist in stone and Ellen, the woman from the forest who casts a curse. At once, this is a sensuous and enduring love story and an epic that shines with the fierce spirit of a passionate age.

I did consider starting to watch Pillars of the Earth, but I’m too far behind now; perhaps when the DVD comes out.
I recommend Black Death (2010) staring Sean Bean. It may not be one of the best films of all time or anything like that, but it was an enjoyable film that actually managed to deliver a couple of surprises. And anything with the great Sean Bean in is worth watching. :)

Not watched; always meant to but never got around to. Everyone I know who has watched it has liked it.
Game of Thrones:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0944947/
Indeed an excellent series and an even more excellent series of books! Watch the series by all means (I heartily recommend it) but the books are even better!
Camelot:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1672189/
Let's not go to Camelot it's a very silly place ... actually I've only watched the first episode and that was quite good; it showed lots of potential. I'll get around to watching the rest of the series sooner or later. I have reasonable expectations for it based on the single episode I watched ... Merlin seems to be the best character.
I know it's not science fiction/fantasy or even historical for that matter but I'd like to chip in with another recommendation:
Justified
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1489428/
Series synopsis: Old-school U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens is reassigned from Miami to his childhood home in the poor, rural coal-mining towns in Eastern Kentucky.
Excellent story, excellent plot and excellent characterisation.
