View Full Version : A Wealth of Material

So last night I was bored and surfing the toilet bowl of the interwebs (this being 4chan.org and 7chan.org - BE WARNED: NSFW) and I was reading the /x/ (paranormal) posts: I came across this amazing list of supernatural hearsay, rumors and good/badness. Just in this one page is enough to probably run several campaigns for a GM who's into the horror/creepiness. Check it out:
http://www.freewebs.com/thekingofwolves/index.htm#111597760
http://theholders.org/?Special:Series_List
Those two links are safe for work, by the way.
Now, this feels to me like one of those things I probably found late, but I thought I'd put it up anyways. There's another indy RPG out there by the name of Unknown Armies that probably took some influence from this and, if it didn't, it should ;)
Enjoy.

I'll see your 'Interesting' and raise you a weird!!!
Hi all!
It's nice to be fully back on-line again - I finally fixed my computer and my cable modem was replaced ... so here's hoping :)
I see you all managed to continue to exist without me - rats!!! :p Ah well...
Seriously thought, there are a few really strange things on those links. Now... what can I use to annoy my players :)

Well, there is a lot of stuff on the on there that by itself isn't really super, but it's when you take some influence from it and weave it into a plot when it gets great.

Very true! Most things would indeed need to be adapted in some way to fit the needs of a campaign ... but that's why we have GM's.
Actually, just about anything can be adapted; all you need is the kernel of an idea. For instance, I once ran a campaign based around a couple of pages in a book, and that particular campaign ran for a couple of years (real time). It might not have been a classic horror campaign, but the scenario certainly seemed to worry the players anyway. :) Horror is about mood and feel, not (just) nasty monsters and evil villains cackling with insane laughter :) but there again, everyone needs ideas from time to time!

I think you have done enough to annoy your players already, don't you? :p
Let's see - as if killing our parents, destroying the family business, wiping out our finances, trying to kidnap poor Elune, hounding her with a stalker (complete with website of nude photos!) wasn't enough (all in the first week of game time!) , you let Elune see herself in a mirror with dishevelled hair (you bastard) - you know she will need therapy now.
Is there much else you could do?
I suppose Shadow (Elune's wolf companion) could be taken away for killing that kidnapper,
have her wardrobe destroyed, forcing her to wear cheap unbranded clothing, or
you could trap Elune and Luunie in a lift for several hours  .
hmm perhaps I shouldn't have suggested that last one...

Your use of the English English language makes me happy.
As a bit of a tribute to you folks I gave a character I played for a time last weekend a cockney accent.
Dog's Bollocks.
Cheers.

Cockney? Alas I must sorrowfully admit to a regrettable lack of familiarity with that term old boy ... is this 'cock-ney' somewhat akin to that absolutely scrumptious Scottish delicacy the 'cock-a-lee'kie' soup? But how on Earth would one play a character in the manner of, let alone with the accent of, a soup?
Aha! Mayhap the gentleman did merely mistype, and in truth intended to suggest that the character actually speak in a manner reminiscent to the avian ‘cockatoo’ … which being of the genus Kakatoe, would be possessive of the ability to emulate human speech patterns?
I presume, in actuality, that it is at least semi-plausible that Mr. Ashe could conceivably be intending to suggest that his character be portrayed as using the intonations of one of those rather uncouth and licentious chaps from the East End of our glorious capital city. However, I personally find this rather remote possibility to be absolutely inconceivable, as a gentleman of Mr. Ashe’s undoubted refinement and erudition would indubitably be aware of the fact that we, being domiciled within the county of Northumbria, which lies within the bounds of that North Eastern portion of the glorious kingdom of England, are know as Geordies. We are therefore not of that commonly portrayed plebeian type, the cockney! Now….
<geordie dialect>Had on a minnit, ah gotta gan to the bog for a slash! Ah’ll be back in a bit…. Wee, ye bugger man, ah needed that!!! Reet, what was ah gannin on aboot…</geordie dialect> ...cough, cough!!! Pardon me old boy; I appear to be developing a slight speech impediment that somewhat impairs my ability to enunciate correctly.
Now, as I was saying….
SORRY!!! Seriously though Ashe, I’m glad that you liked our posts enough to pay us a slight tribute :) Thanks!!! Now if only I could do an American accent… :(
Scarlet/Elune: Lifts.… Hmmm!!! Thinks.… ‘rubs hands in glee’ Now how can I get them into a tower block… or is that a skyscraper? I’m getting confused now… Time to sign off!
PS: Apologies to any cockney’s reading this post. No insult was intended … honest :)

Well if you wish to learn an American accent, simply start speaking all of your vowels through your nose, from there it begins to make sense ;)
And in retrospect actually I do know the difference between Cockney and Geordie, I just never knew the term Geordie ;)
One of these nights we'll pipe a Ventrillo server or something and we can trade accents, I love learning new ones.

Well to be fair to you, we never really made it plain where we were based. At least you made the connection between our spelling of honour/colour etc. and the fact that we are English! You can't really expect a perfect answer from a lack of information :)
Actually, I'm quite impressed that you knew what a Geordie is! My knowledge of America and American accents is rather atrocious, which is why on the whole, I try to keep away from using too many accents. Instead I try to vary the depth/pitch of my voice and how I say things (i.e. using slang words)! It doesn't always work, but at least it's better than having everyone laugh at my standard Irish/Pakistani accent :p
Trading accents could be interesting. Ha! Then all my NPC's could come from Texas, or wherever your accent is from (y'all - see told you I know nothing about accents).
Speaking my vowels through my nose - arggggh!!! I knew there was a reason I didn't do an American accent :)

haha actually I don't even remotely have a texas accent, oddly enough, though I employ some of our local slang on occasion. And when you can't easily do accents varying pitch and body language is exactly the way to go for game, it works just as well in my opinion. Accents can get tricky, especially when you have to have multiple NPCs in the same conversation with different accents - things can get muddled fast

Myths over Miami is actually a personal influence of mine, I love that story. I actually wrote a letter to the author about it and sent her a copy of the book. I first heard about this one back when Little Fears was still in production by Key20, who now handles my distribution for me. That's a game that's very difficult to get a hold of, but is amazing. Jason Blair, the designer, is supposed to be producing a new version of it. Google it sometime.

Actually I used to own a copy of it but I loaned it to a friend and he went off to college. Hopefully when he comes back he'll still have it. Key20 handles the pdf sales of my friend Rich's game New Gods of Mankind from Dark Skull Studios.
