Totems

Been reading the rule book again and was wondering my charature uses totem a lot the rule say that if l use a doll or something to turn into my totem if distoryed it will return to its natual state. Our gm says if l use a doll or something it could be distoryed so which is right will it sevive or be distoryed help please!

The rules may say one thing Scarlet, but evil GM's may decide otherwise ... damn those evil GM's! Personally I blame GM's for most of the ills of the world; war, famine, pestilence, intolerance ... it's all their fault!

In reality, I haven't actually decided what will occur to your 'soft maru' toy (the personal totem), if and when it is eventually destroyed while in totem form. That said, your pointing out the rule to me was certainly valid; kudos for noticing it :)

It's actually an interesting role-play/game question, and I'd like to hear other people's opinions on the matter too! Ignoring for a moment what the rules actually do say, my tendency, and as I said I haven't actually decided yet, is to say that something destroyed is destroyed! However, working on that general principle any damage inflicted on the totem should also be carried back to its original form too, and I'm not really doing that, so ... hmmmm!!!

Part of the reason that I suggested that the personal totem might be destroyed in real life, if it has been destroyed while being used as a totem was a) to worry you and b) to penalise you (the player) with the possible loss of a beloved object. In other words, to make using the beloved toy more of a risk. I'm not saying, but there could be game advantages accruing to you for using a familiar object as a totem (rather than a random object) and so there should/could be associated risks too!
