Just as an idea for those who are already salivating over the INFINITE possibilities that can be run with the 7/13 system, (when did we change it to 7/13? Did I miss that meeting?) I ran an experimental campaign a few years ago that Ashe is STILL hounding me about picking up again where I ran a futuristic Gulliver's Travels campaign as a tribute to Jonathan Swift, one of the great genius minds of literature. Damn.. that was a run-on if ever I wrote one.
Now I HATE little more in games than plaigerism of popular movies and anime... In fact.. if I ever run into a character resembling Inuyasha or any other recognizable and loved by the underage masses... I feel the uncontrollable desire to end their existence in that given campaign. (Not that I didn't drive my high school RP group nuts by having a Star Wars X-Wing at the bottom of a lake in a 2nd Ed. AD&D campaign I ran)
However... being influenced by great literature is always fun. Why bother with some silly hack and slash campaign when you can load up Diablo or... (Godforbid) WoW? The Odyssey and Iliad are perfect examples of.. not only wonderful ancient literature, but also of how to run an incredible epic.
These may be a bit cliche now.. but from the looks of the literature board, we have a few readers here. And for the sake of your players... who DOESN'T like playing pirates? Be it in space, modern times, apocolyptic times, or the space type. Just please.. for the love of all that is just in the world... don't get your ideas from Ice Pirates or Hell Comes to Frog Town.
Some B movies should just be left alone.
