It's been a good while since I actually have found the time to sit down and actually play my own game. Between going back to university double-majoring in english and music and having two kids life has been fairly busy. Around the time that CoE first came out I had been gaming consistently (not more than a month without running or playing in some campaign) for around 15 years. Between then and now it's been almost a year without anything.
My brother Felix (who was one of my fine editors on the book amongst many other contributions) developed a campaign to run that we're actually working out. My crew all have a lot of obligations these days and thus can't get together very easily.
At any rate, this is not a CoE game. Despite Felix's great contributions to CoE over the years, he doesn't really run the main metaplot from the book. In all actuality, neither do I really - I wrote the metaplot differently for the final release to appeal to a wider range of players. So, for some time now, in the world of my crew, there are basically two versions of CoE - the Ghost metaplot (that's my nickname if you didn't know, Ashe is my professional name) and the Felix metaplot. Of course this campaign is neither - you can always tell when the ADHD medication wears off with me.
At any rate, what we have here is seven13 in its generic form supporting a campaign Felix's had titled "Heirs." We ran the first session today and it kicked some serious ass, I must say. My bro runs a great game even having been out of the GM'ing business for close to three years. Here's the basis of the angle:
Initial Setting: Balton, Ohio, USA (Fictional) - 1996
Character Base: 90 CP Human, age 14 years old
- Restrictions: No supernatural aspects, Must have ONLY one living biological parent (mother or father), though step parents and brothers/sisters are fine. Deceased parent died before the character would have known them and have memory of it (~6 months old).
The basic angle is that the game is set in three parts: Part I in freshmen year of high school (that's about the age range for the Yanks for my mates from across the pond). Part II is to be set at university age (for those of us who survive part one) and Part III somewhere around age 30+.
A quick rundown on the characters
Nothwaerd "Noth" Wraxhall (you can laugh at me Brits, I pulled the first name from an Anglo-Saxon name bits list and the second from a large list of English surnames, as there aren't really Anglo-Saxon surnames after all). - Played by yours truly. Noth is an American citizen but his entire extended family is from Britain (not sure wherein, I'll flesh all that out later).
Archetype: Scientist (Stand back, I'm going to try science!)
Description: Socially adept, yet inept at the same time, Noth is extremely reason-oriented and scientific. Using logical inducton/deduction as his method of attack, he has a personality that comes out as largely disconnected. Deep down inside, he really doesn't care all that much about you - he just wants to figure it out.
Sean Dastun - Played by Simon Church
Archetype: Miscreant, Kleptomaniac, general disturber-of-the peace.
Description: Rather than give a long-winded (Ashelike) report on how he spent his summer vacation, Sean preferred to read directly and openly before his homeroom class from that wonderful periodical of note, Penthouse letters. This earned him a trip to the office and an instant shot into fame. Other than that his hobbies include lock-picking and annoying his step-siblings.
Eric Smith - Played by Maestro
Archetype: All-American Overachiever/Jock
Description: The kind of guy that really didn't get along with any of the actual players of this campaign in high school, Eric is an athletic socialite driven to Achieve! and change the world (though he's not really sure how or why).
Kevin Spunkmeyer (aka Kevin Krash) - Played by Stuart Hubbard
Archetype: Bloody Rock God
Description: A musical prodigy with a focus on bass guitar, Kevin is the younger incarnation of the over-the-top, supremely egotistical alcoholic rock sensation that has become a staple among some of the Denton seven13 crews, including my own. Destined for fame and (probably) destined to burn out and end up on VH-1's Behind the Music.
That's all for now - I'll be heading back to work on the new and improved incarnation of the Broken Doll web site, for real this time - no, seriously, I'm actually programming it. Perhaps some of my other crew members will drop in and tell you more.
