View Full Version : The trouble with Razers

Seeing as how we have such a broad fan-base for this class of ether-wielders... let me remind you that Razers (or Toasters as I refer to them) are often clinically insane and their powers unstable.

For those of us who have dated basket cases, imagine that with ultimate destructive power.

Example:
Remember the movie, Carrie? Let's say this wasn't an evil prom gag, but rather an infuriating parking ticket that caused half a city block to be leveled.

Please bare these factors in mind for gameplay and character creation (if you want to play by my rules.. which I often consider to be more comically intriguing)

I know they're insane. It's part of the draw to the Razors. I mean, most other systems have the insane characters... well... unplayable (if you're insane in Eberron, you're just asking to become a conduit to Xoriat and have wet things with tentacles crawl out of your ears).

I mean, you can have destructive powers and have armageddonn-ic temper tantrums of Doom! Or massive paranoia and constantly see the Dark in innocent New Worlders. Or schitzophrenia and go from sweet to one-kiddie-demolition-derby in 2 seconds flat. Mutiple personalities are fun too. Psychopaths (detached from reality to a noticable degree) is now perfectly justifiable! Homocidal tendencies, unfortunately, is reserved for the Dark and their minions.

Who said madness isn't fun?

Actually I don't think razors need be insane or even severely unstable. I think a good example of a raze-style caster who's very rational would be Richard Rahl from Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth Series. While he is rational and calculative, his use of magical forces comes directly from raw need and he seems to only be able to invoke it in situations where it has to happen, rather than out of specific intention or design. Or at least in the first few books it's that way.

I haven't read the book, but if they're insane like Malkavian-insane, they'd be pretty fun to play.

A Razor could definitely be played Malkavian-nuts style, as i'm sure that would be a viable angle. I'm always interested to see what people come upwith now and am definitely interested in what will happen when everyone starts getting a hold of the full book.

We shall see. It's almost a fact that 99% of the population is among the walking dysfunctional... it is only the other 1% are completely insane.

All a matter of degrees.

Still, it takes all kinds to make a world. Even different kinds of Razors...

And it takes all kinds of worlds to make Zaira, so there are a lot more types of Razors than one would have thought.

Oh, probably. Infinite is a very large number, after all.

Not too large for Chuck Norris to have counted to twice.

Nah chuck was trying but then Jack Bauer ate him ;)

J.B. FTW

Chuck Norris challenged all the television badasses to a duel, but only two showed up- MacGuyver and Jack Bauer.

MacGuyver made a plane out of toothpicks and rubber bands, but Chuck roundhouse kicked him and broke the plane.

Jack Bauer managed to capture Chuck, and began to torture him. Unfortunately, Chuck Norris thrives on pain and escaped from his bonds and ripped Jack's arm off.

Pwned.

And with one arm Jack ate Chuck and took his remaining arm attached it to himself to replace what was torn off. :D

Chuck Norris railed against the bonds of internet culture itself. But he too was overcome and gradually receeded into obscurity as the latest fad come into being: Giant Rubber Skanky Legs.

*beats Domini with the randomness of the Skanky Leg*

Ok got question about Razers powers.

My charature uses totem a bit but how much control would she have over it? Could give it comands or stop it when l want to. Dosen't say much in the rules.

Well, in the new rules update (coming soon), that nice Mr Ashe said that you couldn't direct the totem creature to work against Elune or her friends, because that would be cheating, and Elune is far too pretty to by attacked by a totem.
