So i was just out smoking after reading posts on the WoW board and the idea popped into my head that voice-over-ip servers and software (Ventrilo, Teamspeak, etc) has become so popular and easy to use that possibly tabletop RP could be taken to that field, perhaps using an IRC board with a simple dice bot. Basically since tabletop is mostly voice-driven this might work really well. Has anyone done this before? I actually have very little experience when it comes to using such software, but considering that 7/13 is straight percentile it might setup really well. Could allow some of us out here in TX or wherever to get a game with you folks over in europe or the aussies out there. Just an idea. Lemme know what you think.

Zan and I have played WoD on AIM before. In the chat rooms they have a nifty little dice rolling script.

Yeah, friend of mine from DA once let me sit in on a session they were holding over Skype or whatever that thinger is called. 'Course it was for a tabletop RPG of his own creation, but I imagine it could apply to most anything. It was interesting.

Well, I was warned that this topic is really old but I read Ashe's post "Tell Us" in the "Ask Us" forums and what better way to start conversations than bringing up old ones? Espescially the ones that I have things to say about but wasn't here when they were posted... 120 days ago. Hmph.
Anyways, my friends and I have Vent'ed RP sessions with one in China, one in Georgia, and the rest of us in Chicago. It worked really well aside from people not enjoying wearing headphones all night long and our usual issue of campaigns not lasting very long. Anyways, if something like this were to be set up, consider me very interested and willing to help in whatever way possible (Providing vent servers maybe?)

This has a drawing programing, dice system, and is decently easy to use.
I tried this, and found that most people tend to forget to get on when its online not actually being there, but good luck if you want.

So I've been thining about actually setting up or leasing a Ventrilo server and working with openRPG or something to run a campaign over the 'net. I would only be able to run for a certain number of players and we would have to figure out a time that it could be run for and how long, but it's definitely something I'm interested in doing. I suppose let me know what you guys think and perhaps we can move forward with it if there is a point at which everyone can be online.

I have been using teamspeak & skype whilst playing online pc games (world of warcraft etc) for some time (as well as other games which have built in voice comms) and often thought about trying a game using voice comms.
Whilst I think it would work for a dice & paper game, part of the experience is visual - the gm's & other players mannerisms and body language too (especially in my group :) ), but for those .
No need to pay to set up a server - a Teamspeak server can be hosted on any pc, allowing up to about 10 people, and Skype is free, and allows conference calls (with built in text chat too).
I'd like to try it if it ever gets going ::)
