View Full Version : Outside the Book

For poops and giggles, the crew and myself wanted to test the versatility of the book and stray away from our traditional 'End of modern society' scenarios. One of the events that occured was a communistic society anime-style game, our own rendition of BESM (Big Eyes, Small Mouth) if you will. While I for one don't remember the changes we made to the system in order to allow this, the system itself is pretty versatile for westerns, animes, sci-fi... although we never DID finish a mechanized battle system.. that one came up as well (it was nasty). This section is going to be stickied and left open for when the book reaches print and people find new ways to play and offer their own scenarios types and any adjustments to the rules (including new skills, powers, assets or LINKS to adjusted character sheets)
Obviously we don't want to run like GURPS where, while very versatile in its system.. generally required at least 5 or 6 of the 30 some-odd books to effectively play.

What would be the main differences between a BESM version of the game and the regular version?

Or like D&D where you need all three million books to get a good glimpse of the game.

Nah DnD can actually be played just fine off the three core books...now if you want to talk major book collections try Rifts ;)

It takes a lot of time and energy to learn the rules for D&D, so why not go all the way? And their books are so expensive now, there was a 3rd Edition Players Handbook (black cover) for $95, and the only difference was a less decorative, faux-leather cover.

We try to avoid attracting the sheik feather boa crowd when it comes to gaming...
It's been about 3 or 4 years since we tried the BESM thing.. I remember that powers had to be charged DBZ style and for the most part, we just changed the stats to something in more of a mockery of anime.
There was also the surrealism aspect to allow impossible feats of jumping and blinding speed.
