This is a flash-based character creation sheet I've been working on. Currently it's only the first page of the sheet, but everything I can think of gets filled out (shift-click to reduce a stat/skill/power). Tooltips are included for most everything on the page as well (Which can be seen by mousing over stats/skills/menu options for at least 1 second). My crew is still very, very green to the Cycle of Existence, so I thought I would come here ask Ashe and those who know the game better what they think and what might be added to it. Right-click printing it should also work very nicely.

Let me know what you all think!

-Don

Edit: The 13,26,39... and the creation points will very soon be able to be hidden, for people that don't like having that show on their printed sheets.

Ha ha! That makes the happier than kicking kittens...
Okay.. not quite THAT happy.. but close. Sure beats the pants off the old Character Generator I made in Turbo Pascal some... well.. we'll just say that wearing flannel was still cool.

I have a couple of issues with it. Whenever you select a Powers affinity (force, aura, invuln for avatars, etc) the option is still there when you decide to select another one.

Also... you can't subtract points... so if you accidentally click one too many times.. it's start over time.

However, despite my best effort to thwart your math calculating points thingy.. I just couldn't. So color me quite impressed. You don't happen to know how to properly set up a delegate/biped relationship for crowd simulation in 3D studio max without vanishing the damned biped do ya?

Disregard the Max question... figured it out...

Stupid Max...

You also might want to calculate Glow by Xing out boxes accordingly. Except in this case you'd be starting out with 14 X's and working your way down based off the Aff and Mind calculations.

Oops, I should have explained how to reduce values. Since right-clicking doesn't work in flash, I made it a shift click to reduce something in powers.

As for removing a power, that's pretty hard and something I'm probably going to work on either tonight or tomorrow night.

I'm not sure what you mean about the glow. Based on Aff and Mind the boxes get completely filled out so that you know where your max is and can use it if you want to print it out. Eventually I was thinking about actually making the boxes that you wouldn't use disappear completely. Mind explaining your vision in a little bit more detail?

I actually haven't worked with 3D Studio Max before, so sadly I couldn't help you there... :( Thanks for the feedback, and if you think of more things feel free to let me know.

Did I calculate critical tolerances correctly for str+def and races? The wording in the book confused me a bit. Also, how do people typically use the Current Status and Critical Tolerance columns on the bottom of the sheet? I imagined it was something like what I had where current status would hold how much break level was left on that body part.

Also, if anyone has access to a printer can they fill some things out and then give this a shot? Some people have had very odd results when printing sheets out.

Oh... heh.. yeah.. the Glow works the way I thought it would.. I was just being an idiot again. I especially like the roll-over descriptions, I hadn't noticed that before.

I think that you're okay on the race calculations for the time being. If you do decide to pursue the second page, that's when the racial differences will come most into play. For example, the break level will automatically be increased for Silana based upon their racial gifts... same as the speed factor of Asa kids and the linguistic factor of the fuzzy guys... I mean Oraki..

Looks good, Don. I'm pretty sure that Ashe will be very impressed whenever he gets around to giving it a once-over. He's also more likely to nit-pick.

Unfortunately.. I can't print out at work OR home... so I can't help ya with that experiment.

First off, sorry I haven't come on to respond to this, this is totally badass man. I am extremely impressed. I love the rollover effects with the lines from the book and whatnot and I think the setup is excellent. The only beef I suppose I have wih it (and I understand that this is a draft phase so I'm definitely not nitpicking) is the resolution. Also, it would probably look really smooth with the new streamline, printer-firendly version of the CRS.

I might actually have to crackout flash and help with this, maybe throw together some fonts and whatnot to check out for ya. Overall though, the fact that you did this is totally cool. If you need anything from me for help (text for the rollovers or a photoshop/hi res original of the pages) just let me know. This sort of thing is what I was really hoping for out of our community for the game, and I'm always up for supporting it in any way I can. Mad props on the design, Don, it's very cool.

Hey man, no problem. We all get busy, right? So now I have some questions.. Where can I get the new streamlined, printer-friendly version of the CRS? I got what I'm using right now from the files section, is that the most up-to-date place to get these from? Also, what don't you like about the resolution? Is it too big or too small, in your and Felix's opinions?

Better fonts or suggestions for the rollovers would be amazing. I didn't go as into detail as I might have liked(For example listing off the names of the powers in Avatar ranks) just in case that was something you might have been touchy about. I don't have rollovers for the psychology stats yet because I really have no idea what to put in them, and some of the rollovers I put down for Raze and Ethromancy are also pretty terrible, imo.

I'm going to be working on the second page soon, and after that I hope to add some sort of login name/password for people so they can save characters on a local database I'm going to put together for this. Any other suggestions would be great!

You know the resolution thing could just be my browser or screen, but it seemed pixellated to a certain extent. The more streamlined version of the CRS, which also contains more information, particularly on Page 2, is listed in the Character Sheets section of the Files page as the Seven13 Generic sheet. As far as typefaces go, I'll try and take a look through the OpenType library I have and see what I can come up with. As for the database/login idea, I might be able to work with you on that and see if we could actually link that to people's login accounts here on the site and actually host it here if your interested. I'm not sure what type of db stuff you're talking about working with, but everything on here runs on a pretty standard MySQL standard. Drop me an email or something if you need anything or hopefully I'll get in touch with you soon.

I looked at the more streamlined version of the CRS, and I like the layout of it better, but the older one seems to me to be much more aesthetically pleasing (I was really amazed when I saw the character sheet in the back of the book when I first bought it, it's really gorgeous). Is it hard to have a combination of the two? I've been looking into the ways that I can tie into MySQL and it looks like it will take some time but shouldn't be that big of a deal. I think it's a great idea and it's really cool that you'd let me do that. Thanks a lot for the help man.

Also, I put a new version up on the site yesterday. There aren't a whole lot of changes, I finished up all of the tooltips that I had on the pages and took Felix's suggestion and disabled menu options for Supernatural Aspects once you select them. Page #2 is up next, and I'll likely be building it with the new version of the page in mind so that switching over to it won't be very difficult.
